MANSION ON TURTLE CREEK
Profile
This prestigious restaurant is the lair to some of Dallas’s most noteworthy individuals. Their menu has defined southwest cuisine since day one. My favorite has been the wild game sampler, which gives a taste of elk and quail. Nationally renowned Chef Dean Ferring, delivers food which will satisfy any palette. With an impressive appetizer and dessert list, one should make a weekend of it, and stay at the attached five-star Rosewood hotel. If at the bar be sure to try their Godivia Chocolate Martini, with real chocolate from Switzerland.

CIUDAD D.F. MEXICO CITY DINING
Profile
Having enjoyed this restaurant for both dinner and appetizers/drinks only, I thought it was about time to try the Sunday Brunch. The starters (bo cados) were good but the entrees (platillos) stole the show. My friend had the Desayuno Americano (sweet potato pancakes), while I had the Machaca (eggs with beef tenderloin). Both the sevice and presentation were excellent and the taste lived up to the eye appeal. I usually don't consider dessert with brunch, but the chocolate mousse made me gladly reconsider. With either the indoor atmosphere or outdoor patio, this is a perfect place for that electic upscale Sunday Brunch adventure.

JAVIER'S GOURMET MEXICANO
Profile
Many things can be said about this hot spot, not only for its good food, but mainly of how this place draws the best looking people of Dallas on Thursdays to its immensely packed bar. People watching should be part of the menu along with Dallas' best enchiladas hands down and several specialties that make coming back a very easy task to do. Expect a wait on drinks thanks to its bar patrons, but the food won't disappoint you. Filete Cantinflas and Barra de Navidad are also my favorites.

CANYON CAFE
Profile
This North Dallas Southwestern cuisine restaurant is a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. I received great service and was pleasantly surprised with the decor. The fireplace and bar area were exceptional. Happy hours are a hoot. I have never heard a bad comment about the menu, as I stopped their for weekend brunch and was pleased. Other menu notables include the South Texas Tortilla Soup, Corn Crusted Calamari, Applewood Smoked Pecan Salmon and Paella for Two.

VIA REAL GOURMET MEXICAN
Profile
This Southwestern lunch hotspot offers exceptional value and healthy portions. For appetizer order the Tapas Via Real which gives you an assortment of gourmet appetizers. The traditional tortilla soup is hearty and the avocados fresh. The entree is most difficult to pick since it varies from southwest to Mexican to vegetarian. I tried the seafood tamales which were exceptional. The other two tried the seared salmon and the chicken Monterey and were equally happy with their selection.

BLUE MESA GRILL
Profile
Every dish is with corn, or has corn in it, so be prepared. Addison location a very popular hang out for happy hours and its specially lethal margaritas. Very intricate dishes for a “Mexican joint” such as Churrascaritas- grilled skewers of chicken, beef, sausage, shrimp or vegetables served with a grilled Mesa Panna flat bread to wrap them in, as well as sides of black beans, guacamole, papaya relish and Chimayo market corn – a delicious ear of roasted corn slathered in an ancho chile mayonnaise and manchego cheese. NW Hwy location is a new hot spot for lunch and happy hour crowds.

This trendy Deep Ellum eatery servers tradional Mexican fare that makes my taste buds water just thinking about them. Their salsa is heaven and make sure you get the black beans with any entrée. Sundays nights it Salsa night where some of Dallas' best work the dance floor. Don’t forget their sister restaurant Cuidad.

BestTortilla Soup in the city, just like they say on the menu. I was hungry so I ordered the Gulf fired Shrimp as well as the Chicken Tenders. No wonder why this place is packed. Great place for SMUers to take their parents if they visit. Don't forget to try the cornbread.

PRIMO'S BAR & GRILL
Profile
Not enough can be said of this Mexican staple restaurant with same consistency food every time and flocks of beautiful people here on most nights...especially Tuesday for $2.50 margaritas and Thursday’s for pretty persons night out, making it the ultimate hangout 6-10:30. Food is great also. I like the mesquite shrimp, fajitas, and believe it or not, they serve the best cheeseburger and fries in town. Other appetizer highlights are the spinach or chicken Quesadillas, big enough for a meal. Might also have best chips and salsa in town...make sure to order queso with hamburger meat it’s to die for.

BLUE GOOSE CANTINA
Profile
A very popular trusting place on Sundays for those nursing hangovers or for those still trying to get one with its heavy dose of yummy margaritas. Very faddish for its patios especially the Greenville location where you can mingle and check out who’s driving by with what car or bike. Great place to indulge with their mammoth size fajita platters, enchiladas, and unbelievably, a nice seafood craving quencher with its shrimp and salmon platters.
